A dog who was “used as bait” in dog fights and lost half her face discovered the meaning of genuine love after being adopted. Haddie is unrecognizable after being mercilessly mauled by fighting dogs in an illegal operation.
Her skin was “rotting” and peeling, so a significant amount had to be removed, leaving her with only one eye.
Erin Williams, 36, was attracted to his distinctive appearance and the two now live safely and happily in Washington, DC.
Haddie has overcome her phobia of other dogs and now loves nothing more than playing in her neighborhood park.
“She’s become a real dog, which warms my heart,” Erin told The Mirror.
Erin discovered Haddie on the online pet website petfinder.com in August 2020 and couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Haddie was rescued from a dog fighting ring by a kind stranger and taken to Mutt Scouts in Southern California.
The two-year-old dog was injured everywhere, but the worst thing was his face. According to a veterinarian, his injuries and disposition were caused by his use as a “bait dog.”
“We don’t know much about her personal experience in that world,” Erin added, “but it’s possible that the fighting dogs pushed their ‘fighting dogs’ to continually attack her for ‘training.’”
“In these cases, all dogs are victims.”
Erin and Haddie became inseparable when the Mutt Scouts brought them together and changed their lives.
Erin didn’t know Haddie’s real birthday, so she made one up based on Dolly Parton’s birthday, January 19th.
Erin first characterized Haddie as “nice and silly,” but she was afraid of other dogs. Hearing a dog barking or seeing another dog made her body shake violently. Erin enlisted the help of a dog trainer to help Haddie overcome her deep-seated phobias.
She continued, “We would feed him hot dogs and introduce him to a dog on the other side of the park.” “Then we got closer and closer until she connected the dogs with safety and teats.”
“In the end, I feel like his personality allowed it.” I am sure that his intelligence and resilience benefited the process.”
Haddie now likes to run with other dogs in her neighborhood park and does a “funny little jump” when she’s happy to go outside.
“She’s a social butterfly,” the narrator continues. Erin said, “She likes humans and she expects everyone to pet her ears.”
Haddie must apply medicated sunscreen to her nose and scars every time she leaves the house, but otherwise she’s just like any other dog, just looking a little different.
Strangers inevitably notice and ask about this unique dog, but Erin says the reactions aren’t as negative as she had imagined.
“Most people react with warmth and kindness. “His enthusiasm for life is so clear that it would be impossible not to be,” Erin said.
“Sometimes we get harsh comments or uncomfortable looks, but fortunately they are few and far between. Those people will never know her, so her loss is theirs.”
Erin’s life has also changed thanks to the one-of-a-kind dog, which has helped her cope with depression.
“Haddie is always there to remind me to go for a walk and is always up for an afternoon nap,” Erin noted.
Erin created Instagram and TikTok profiles for Haddie and says her fans have taught her how “incredibly nice the world can be.”
“The people I meet there are encouraging and thoughtful, and I’m glad,” Erin said.
