Abandoning a pup is probably one of the most heartless things you can do to your pet.
Sadly, there have been many cases of abandonment in the U.S. in recent years. According to the University of Florida, this problem is particularly visible in South Florida. (1)
Not only do those cruel owners dump their pets on the street, but they also abuse them. It is the worst thing for the poor dog.
One such case, which happened not so long ago in Broward County, is particularly disturbing, but that’s exactly why this story had to be told.
Heartless Owners At Their Worst
On a cold February day, a couple that was traveling through South Florida noticed something strange in the middle of the Florida Everglades in Broward County.
One poor creature moaned softly in the dark, as he lay curled up on the dirty ground. They immediately recognized that it was a dog.
He was dirty and very sad, and he didn’t even want to look them in the eyes. They assumed that he was dumped and they also noticed that he was very weak.
This poor dog was starving for days and he had lost hope that anyone would ever find him. He was on the verge of shutting down.
The couple realized that they didn’t have much time and that they needed to act quickly if they wanted to save the poor pup. However, they didn’t have much luck, as they tried to find help for almost 4 hours, but nobody came.
Officers With Big Hearts On Duty
“We were calling all the rescuers and organization for 4 full hours, but nobody responded,” the couple said “ In the end, police came.”
The officers of the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrived to respond to the call of an “extreme case of abuse”.
When they came, one officer immediately showed the dog some kindness and gave him a little bit of food and water, so that he could endure the journey.
The officers gained a bit of his trust, but the problem was that the poor pup was so weak that he couldn’t even move from his spot. He needed assistance, and it was truly a difficult task to get him to the car, but this dog eventually made it.
These brave officers truly showed how to do this honorable job. Way to go, boys, and thank you for your service!
Consequences of Cruel Treatment
When they provided Powder, as they called him, with all the necessities, and when he finally stabilized, the deputies contacted Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Rescue.
Of course, they immediately responded and took the dog into their care. Sandra Dezelen, the founder of Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Care, met them there.
She picked Powder up to provide emergency medical care. When she saw him, she immediately concluded that he’d been out there for a while and that the recovery would take a long time.
After taking a lot of tests, Powder’s medical update was ready the next day. They concluded that he had a severe infection, because of which, he was red all over his body.
Aside from that, they took him to Dr. Rob Schneider, a local eye surgeon, and he found out that Powder had Entropia. Also, he needed to have eye surgery on both eyes.
All of this is proof of what the consequences of cruel treatment done by cold-hearted people can lead to.
New Life That Truly Healed Him
Despite the fact that Powder was still haunted by the horrifying experience he had been through, he was now in the safe hands of those who had much love.
Thanks to the care of the good people from Dezzy’s Second Chance, Powder healed from those nasty red spots on his skin, and his eye surgery was successful.
Aside from that, he gained 4 Ibs., and was again a playful and happy dog, full of trust due to the love of heartwarming people. Also, his new dog brothers and sisters from Second Chance gave him the much-needed confidence to bring back the smile on his face.
Although there wasn’t an official post, Sandra confirmed in one comment on the “Lost Pet Found Pet” Facebook Page that he has been adopted, and now enjoying his new life with lots of love in a new family that truly deserves him.
We also hope that his new family will do everything to give him lots of love and ultimately restore his lost trust in people.
