It can be an extremely harrowing experience for abandoned dogs to go from a cherished home to a bustling shelter environment.
Imagine the fear and confusion gripping a once-beloved pet as they navigate a discord of unfamiliar noises, the absence of their favorite person, and the overwhelming uncertainty of their surroundings.
In the midst of all the chaos, the shelter workers and volunteers are the only ones who provide comfort to all those terrified pooches.
And, some pooches, just like a Pittie mix dubbed Andy Cohen, need all the comfort the shelter can provide.
Meet Andy Cohen
Andy Cohen, an American radio and TV talk show host and producer, is not the only living being bearing that name.
A Pittie mix also named Andy Cohen was brought to the Tift County Animal Shelter, in Tifton, Georgia, after his owner could not keep him anymore.
Andy Cohen, along with three other dogs, was surrendered to the shelter at the beginning of November 2023.
Leah Robinson, the Tift County Animal Shelter rescue coordinator, told Newsweek magazine that the owner had stated that he was returning to his job as a truck driver and couldn’t keep his dogs anymore.
“They were heartbroken when they arrived, all huddled together and scared. Andy Cohen was shy, crying and feeling abandoned,” she also said.
To encourage more people to adopt and foster shelter dogs, especially for the holidays, the shelter decided to post a video of sweet Andy Cohen, who sought comfort in the staff.
Evidently terrified and sad, this sweet dog clung to the employee’s leg and simply wouldn’t let go. He just needed someone to be there for him and show him some love.
In the video that went viral, you can see this beautiful furry boy with a sad face, who is being stroked by the worker as he is hugging her leg.
A Thanksgiving Joy
Because of the constant fear and stress that he felt at the shelter, the management decided to transport him to another shelter in New York City – their sister shelter called Waldo’s Rescue Pen.
“We wanted him to have a fresh start with a family that loves him,” Robinson said.
Luckily, it all went exactly as they had hoped.
When Waldo’s Rescue Pen posted the video of Andy Cohen, people were saddened by his unfortunate destiny.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for him to find the perfect home, and it happened right before Thanksgiving.
We all know what Andy Cohen – now known as Buddy – was thankful for this Thanksgiving.
“He is now named Buddy and living his best life with his family in NY. We are so happy for Buddy and his family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” they said in the video announcing the happy news.
It seems like Buddy has already gotten used to his new home and is so much happier. And, he also has a furry friend! How wonderful!
To the amazing family that adopted him – thank you! Please, never let him go.
