On the 27th of last month, a video of a man moving around the streets in a manual wheelchair in Ecatepec, Mexico was uploaded to the video sharing platform TikTok.
Manual wheelchairs must be pushed by hand, but for some reason, the man’s left arm was resting on his stomach and his right arm was glued to his body. Both legs of different lengths were hanging limply under the wheelchair.
The person who moved the wheelchair of this man who could not use his hands and feet was none other than a dog. The dog, believed to be a Belgian Malinois, was pushing the wheelchair after pushing his head under it.
It wasn’t something I had done once or twice. The wheelchair moved safely while avoiding cars and pedestrians. Even the direction was changed freely. The wheelchair that came to the crossing to avoid people stopped as it approached the road where cars were passing.
The dog got out from in front of the wheelchair, stood in front of the man, and made eye contact with the man for a long time. It seemed like they were checking the man’s condition. I also looked around the road. When no more cars passed, the dog went under the wheelchair again and crossed the road.
As of 9 am on the 5th, the number of views of this video exceeded a whopping 29.6 million. Netizens who watched the video said, “I cried a lot after watching the video,” “A true life partner,” “This is a true friend,” “Knows how to cross the street better than people,” “A pet dog is love and a gift,” and “That friendship.” There were reactions such as “I’m crying.” There were also comments saying they wanted to help a man and his dog in a wheelchair and asking for the man’s whereabouts. The videographer responded that they were selling candy at a nearby cathedral.
